Description	Effective research data management is central to good research. Funding agencies are increasingly expecting researchers to manage effectively the data produced as a result of the research they fund, to enable it to be able to exploit for further research. This is reflected in their data sharing policies and the inclusion of data management and sharing plans as part of research bids. The course will provide participants with the knowledge to manage their research data at every stage of the data lifecycle, from pre-project planning, data creation, data management, publication, long-term preservation and issues of sharing and re-use. The course will focus on the specific nature of research data in the social sciences, both qualitative and quantitative, and the challenges that this presents. By the end of the workshop, participants will: Understand the main concepts around research data management (RDM) and why it is important to researchers and funders Understand how to implement good practice in research data management, including organising, saving, backing up and describing their data. Investigate and discuss issues and requirements around sharing and re-use of their data. Explore tools that help with RDM, including practical use of the DMPOnline tool. Indicative Readings Jones, S. Select Quick Preferences from the browser's Tools menu.

Make sure the checkbox next to Enable JavaScript is checked.

Netscape and Mozilla Suite

Select Preferences from the browser's Edit menu.

Click Advanced on the left side of the dialog box.

Click the Scripts & Plugins subitem under Advanced.

Check the box next to Navigator.

Click the OK to close the Preferences dialog box.
